This is a face-face theoretical course delivered by specialist clinicians working in acute adult dysphagia care. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePlease note attaining Level C is dependent on practical kills and knowledge sign off by your line manager and will not be completed by attending this course\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is not an academic course and does not qualify for points towards a masters degree or ECTS\/ECVET. The course content is regularly updated to keep pace with current dysphagia evidence base and practice. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePre course requirements: \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eYou must be a qualified speech and language therapist \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eYou should have some basic knowledge, prior experience, or be working with adults in acute care with dysphagia.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ePlease note this course does not cover paediatric or ALD dysphagia.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eThere is no pre course reading requirement \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eWe are unable to provide supervision or arrange a supervisor for you. You must arrange this yourself. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe course consists of\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eSix days over a three week period held at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmignham\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eYou will need to be able to attend all sessions in person to join the course.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eYou will need to complete the practical competencies and sign off the RCSLT competency document outside of this course. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe course will cover the following. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eIntroduction to dysphagia competencies: logistics and expectations\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eWell being during dysphagia training\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eAnatomy, cranial nerves and the normal swallow\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eCase history taking and bedside swallow assessments\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eDysphagia management in a range of specialist adult acute areas including health care for older people, specialist surgery, port extubation, respitory, progressive neurological, neuro trauma, stroke, head and neck cancer, mental health and oncology. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ePractical implementation of IDDSI\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eMDT roles and responsibilities.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eInstrumental assessmentsin dysphagia management\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eCultural, ethical, and vulnerability considerations in dysphagia assessment and amangement \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eRole of dietician and respitory physiotherapist. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eSessions will be delivered in presentation format, with opportunity for role play and practical activities. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003ePresentations will be sent to you after the sessions have been completed. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eLunch is not provided.
